Lotus Temple, New Delhi, Delhi

Lotus Temple

A white flower of twenty-seven marble petals, open to prayer of every faith.

In south Delhi rises the Lotus Temple, a Bahai House of Worship celebrated the world over for its extraordinary architecture — a great white flower of twenty-seven marble petals unfolding from serene pools of water, completed in 1986. Unlike a temple to any single deity, it is a house of prayer open to people of every religion and background, who come to sit in its vast, silent central hall in meditation and reflection.

Embodying the Bahai ideal of the unity of all faiths and all humanity, the Lotus Temple welcomes millions of visitors each year and has become one of the most visited buildings in the world. A place of peace and beauty amid the bustle of the capital, it is a modern landmark of quiet devotion.
