Gandaki Chandi (Muktinath) Shakti Peeth

A Himalayan seat of the Mother, where the Gandaki yields sacred shaligrams.

In the high Himalayas of Nepal, on the bank of the sacred Gandaki river near the great pilgrimage of Muktinath, is revered the Gandaki Chandi Shakti Peetha. In the tradition of the Peethas, the side of Sati's forehead (temple) fell here, and the Goddess is worshipped as Gandaki Chandi, with Chakrapani as her Bhairava.

The Gandaki is famed as the source of the sacred shaligram stones, revered as embodiments of Vishnu, so that the site unites the worship of the Mother with one of the holiest of Vaishnava tirthas at Mukti Kshetra. Gandaki Chandi is among the loftiest and most remote of the Mother's Himalayan seats.
