Chintpurni (Chhinnamastika) Temple

Where all worry is lifted, a Shakti Peetha in the wooded Himalayan hills.

In the Una district of Himachal Pradesh, the temple of Chintpurni is revered as a Shakti Peetha where, in the tradition of the Peethas, a part of Sati's sacred form is said to have fallen. The Goddess is worshipped here as Chhinnamastika, one of the profound Mahavidya forms of the Devi, yet she is known lovingly by the name Chintpurni — the fulfiller who removes all worry (chinta). Tradition holds that the shrine was established by a devotee, Mai Das, to whom the Goddess appeared.

Pilgrims come in great numbers, especially through the Navaratri seasons and the summer fairs, to lay their cares before the Mother and seek her peace. The shrine sits amid the wooded lower Himalayas, a natural stop on the Devi circuit alongside Jwalamukhi, Naina Devi, and Vaishno Devi.

As her very name promises, Chintpurni is sought by all who carry worry in their hearts, trusting the Mother to lift their burdens.
