In south Delhi stands the Chhatarpur temple, dedicated to the Goddess as Shri Adya Katyayani — a form of Durga — and counted among the largest temple complexes in India. Established in 1974 through the vision of the saint Baba Sant Nagpal, the vast complex is built largely of gleaming white marble, its many shrines set amid gardens and carved pavilions.
The Goddess Katyayani presides at its heart, opened to devotees in full only during the Navaratri festivals, when immense crowds throng the temple day and night. A grand and much-loved centre of Devi worship in the capital, Chhatarpur is among the most visited temples of Delhi.
