The Shiva Mahimna Stotra runs to forty-three verses in praise of Shiva, and tradition holds that Pushpadanta composed it. It opens by admitting that praise itself falls short of what it addresses, since neither Brahma nor the Vedas reach the end of it. The stotra is recited in Shiva temples and through the observances of Mahashivaratri.
