The Nalayira Divya Prabandham gathers four thousand pasurams composed by the twelve Alvars in Tamil. Tradition holds that Nathamuni collected the scattered verses and arranged them into the four books in which they are now recited. The temples sung of in these verses are known as the Divya Desams, and the Tiruppavai of Andal is sung through the month of Margazhi.
