At Mardol in Goa stands the Shri Mahalsa temple, one of the most revered Goan shrines, dedicated to the Goddess Mahalsa — worshipped as a form of the enchanting Mohini, the female form Vishnu took to bewitch the demons at the churning of the ocean, and honoured by devotees as a powerful and beautiful Mother.
Rebuilt in the graceful Goan style with its white tower and tall lamp-tower, and famed for its ornate brass and its sacred rituals, the temple is beloved of the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin community. Mahalsa of Mardol draws devotees from across Goa and beyond, and is among the most cherished temples of the Konkan.
