At Priol in Goa stands the Mangueshi temple, the most famous and one of the most beloved of all Goan temples, dedicated to Lord Shiva worshipped as Manguesh in the form of a linga. Rebuilt in its present graceful form some centuries ago, the temple is a jewel of the distinctive Goan style, with its gleaming white tower, its domes and balustrades, and its beautiful seven-storeyed lamp-tower (deepstambha) that blazes with light during festivals.
The presiding deity of the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin community, Manguesh draws devotees from across Goa and beyond. Serene beside its sacred tank, the Mangueshi temple is among the most cherished shrines of the Konkan coast.
