Ratnavali (Anandamayee) Shakti Peeth

The bliss-filled Mother of the Ratnakar, worshipped as Kumari, ever young.

On the bank of the Ratnakar river at Khanakul in the Hooghly district stands the Ratnavali Shakti Peetha, known locally as the Anandamayee temple — the seat of the bliss-filled Goddess. In the tradition of the Peethas, the right shoulder (dakshina skandha) of Sati fell here, and the Mother is worshipped as Kumari, the eternally pure and youthful form of the Adi Shakti, guarded by her Bhairava Shiva.

One of the quieter and lesser-known of the fifty-one seats, Ratnavali carries a gentle, benevolent presence, drawing devotees of the Mother especially through the Navaratri and Durga Puja seasons. It is counted among the Shakti Peethas of southern Bengal along the tributaries of the Hooghly.
