Mahamaya Temple, Ratanpur

In the Bilaspur region, the Mother who weaves the cosmic illusion.

At Ratanpur in the Bilaspur region of Chhattisgarh stands the ancient temple of Mahamaya, revered as a Shakti Peetha where, in the tradition of the Peethas, a part of Sati's sacred form is said to have fallen. The Goddess is worshipped as Mahamaya, the great weaver of the cosmic illusion.

The shrine — dating to the era of the Kalachuri kings who once ruled from Ratanpur — is among the oldest and most venerated Devi seats of the region. Honoured especially through Navaratri, Mahamaya of Ratanpur is a cherished Mother-goddess shrine of central Chhattisgarh.
