On a hill rising steeply above the town of Dongargarh in Chhattisgarh stands the Maa Bamleshwari temple, one of the most revered Devi shrines of the region, reached by a climb of over a thousand steps or by a ropeway. The Goddess is worshipped here as Bamleshwari, a powerful form of the Divine Mother, with a second shrine, the Chhoti Bamleshwari, at the foot of the hill.
The temple draws immense crowds during the Navaratri festivals, when countless jyoti-kalash lamps are lit in the Mother's honour, and the hill glows with devotion. Maa Bamleshwari of Dongargarh is among the most beloved Devi shrines of Chhattisgarh.
