Lalita Devi Temple

At the confluence of Prayag, the sovereign Goddess of the Sri Vidya.

Also at Prayag, the Goddess Lalita is enshrined among the Shakti seats of the sacred confluence-city, revered in the tradition of the Peethas as a place where a part of Sati's form fell. She is worshipped as Lalita Tripurasundari, the supremely beautiful and sovereign Goddess of the Sri Vidya tradition, whose thousand names are sung in the celebrated Lalita Sahasranama of the Brahmanda Purana.

As one of the Devi shrines of Prayag — the tirtha-raja, the king of pilgrimage places — the temple draws pilgrims who come to the Sangam of the three rivers. Lalita embodies the Mother in her aspect of grace, beauty, and the bliss that underlies all creation.

Her worship at Prayag joins the devotee's bathing at the confluence with adoration of the Divine Mother in her most auspicious and benevolent form.
