Gayatri Shakti Peeth (Manibandh)

At Pushkar, the abode of Lord Brahma, a Peetha where Sati's wrists fell.

On the Gayatri hills near the holy town of Pushkar, north-west of Ajmer in Rajasthan, is revered the Manibandh Shakti Peetha. In the tradition of the Peethas, the two wrists (manibandha) of Sati fell here, and the Goddess is worshipped as Gayatri, with Sarvananda as her Bhairava.

The setting is doubly sacred, for Pushkar is celebrated as an abode of Lord Brahma and the site of his rare temple, and Gayatri is the very mantra-goddess of the Vedas. Pilgrims combine darshan of the Mother with the sacred bathing in Pushkar lake. Manibandh Gayatri is a cherished Shakti seat of the Rajasthan desert country.
