In the city of Amritsar in Punjab stands the Durgiana temple, a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to the Goddess Durga and to Lakshmi-Narayana, often called the Silver Temple for its ornate silver doors. Built in the early twentieth century, it beautifully echoes the form of the nearby Golden Temple, its gilded sanctum rising from the midst of a sacred pool (sarovar).
A serene and much-loved centre of devotion, the Durgiana temple draws pilgrims and visitors alike, especially during Navaratri and Dussehra. It stands as one of the most important Hindu temples of Amritsar, graceful upon its shimmering waters.
