Devipatan Shaktipeeth (Pateshwari Devi), Tulsipur

Near the Nepal border, where the left shoulder of Sati is honoured.

At Tulsipur in the Balrampur region of Uttar Pradesh, near the Nepal border, stands the ancient Devipatan temple, revered as a Shakti Peetha where, in the tradition of the Peethas, the left shoulder of Sati is said to have fallen. The Goddess is worshipped as Pateshwari Devi.

The shrine is closely linked with the Nath yogic tradition and the memory of Guru Gorakhnath, and its great fair at Chaitra Navaratri draws pilgrims from both India and Nepal. One of the oldest Devi seats of the region, Devipatan is a revered centre of the Mother's worship in the eastern Awadh country.
