Chandrabhaga (Prabhas) Shakti Peeth

Where the stomach of Sati fell, by the western sea near Somnath.

Near the sacred shore of Prabhas, close to the Somnath Jyotirlinga in the Gir Somnath district of Gujarat, is revered the Chandrabhaga Shakti Peetha. In the tradition of the Peethas, the stomach (udar) of Sati fell here, and the Goddess is worshipped in her Chandrabhaga form, with Vakratund as her Bhairava.

Set in the ancient tirtha of Prabhas Kshetra — itself hallowed by the Mahabharata and by the presence of Somnath — the shrine unites the worship of Shiva and Shakti on the western sea. Chandrabhaga is a lesser-known but deeply sacred seat of the Mother in the pilgrimage landscape of Saurashtra.
