In the Kangra valley of Himachal Pradesh, on the bank of the Ban Ganga, stands the Chamunda Devi temple, a revered shrine of the Goddess in her fierce form as Chamunda — the Mother who, the Devi Mahatmya recounts, slew the demons Chanda and Munda. Set amid pine-clad hills below the Dhauladhar range, it is one of the important Devi shrines of the Kangra region, often visited together with the nearby Jwalamukhi and Brajeshwari. Chamunda is worshipped here as a powerful and protective Mother, and her shrine draws great crowds, especially during Navaratri.
