At Yaganti in the Kurnool region of Andhra Pradesh, amid the rugged hills of the Erramala range, stands the Uma Maheswara temple, where, remarkably, Shiva and Parvati are worshipped together in a single self-manifested image as Uma Maheswara. Set among caves and rock formations, with sacred springs whose waters flow perpetually from an unknown source, Yaganti is a place of natural wonder and deep antiquity, linked in tradition to the sage Agastya.
The temple is famed above all for its great Nandi, which devotees believe is slowly growing in size over the years. A striking shrine set amid stone and spring, Yaganti draws pilgrims to worship Shiva and the Mother as one, and is among the most distinctive temples of the Rayalaseema country.
