In the ancient city of Ayodhya on the bank of the Sarayu river in Uttar Pradesh — revered across the ages as the birthplace of Lord Rama — stands the grand Ram Mandir, where the Lord is worshipped as Ram Lalla, the divine child. Ayodhya is celebrated in the Ramayana as the capital of the Ikshvaku kings and the janmabhoomi of Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu, whose life of dharma, devotion, and righteous rule is the heart of one of India's greatest epics.
The magnificent new temple, built in the traditional Nagara style of North Indian temple architecture and consecrated in the pran-pratishtha ceremony of January 2024, fulfils the devotion of generations who longed to worship at Rama's birthplace. Its intricately carved sandstone halls and rising shikharas draw immense throngs of pilgrims.
Ayodhya, one of the seven sacred cities that grant liberation, stands renewed as a great centre of Rama bhakti.
