Rajrappa Chhinnamasta Temple

The Mahavidya who bears her own head, at the meeting of two rivers.

At Rajrappa in the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand, where the Bhairavi river tumbles into the Damodar, stands the celebrated temple of Chhinnamasta — the self-decapitated Goddess, one of the ten Mahavidyas, who holds her own severed head yet streams life-giving nourishment, an awesome emblem of the power that both gives and sustains all life.

Revered as a potent Shakti and Siddha Peetha, Rajrappa is a great centre of Tantric worship, its setting at the river confluence deepening its sacred power. The fierce and profound form of the Goddess here draws devotees and sadhakas seeking her formidable grace, and the shrine is among the most important Devi seats of Jharkhand.
