On the Bilwa Parvat overlooking the holy city of Haridwar in Uttarakhand, where the Ganga enters the plains, stands the Mansa Devi temple, one of the revered Siddha Peeths and part of the sacred Panch Tirth of Haridwar. The Goddess is worshipped as Mansa — she who fulfils the wishes (manasa) of the heart. Reached by a hillside climb or a ropeway, the temple draws vast crowds of pilgrims, who tie sacred threads upon a tree in the courtyard, praying for their wishes and returning to untie them in gratitude when fulfilled. Mansa Devi is among the most beloved shrines of Haridwar.
