Mahalakshmi Temple, Mumbai

The threefold Mother, said to have been recovered from the Arabian Sea.

On the seafront at Breach Candy in Mumbai stands the Mahalakshmi temple, one of the city's most beloved and most visited shrines, dedicated to the Goddess of wealth and wellbeing. Here the Mother is worshipped in her threefold form as Mahalakshmi, Mahakali, and Mahasaraswati, their images richly adorned with gold and jewels; tradition tells that the deities were recovered from the sea and enshrined here over two centuries ago.

Overlooking the Arabian Sea, the temple draws a ceaseless stream of devotees who come to seek the blessings of Lakshmi for prosperity and grace, above all during Navaratri, when it is magnificently decorated. Mahalakshmi of Mumbai is among the great Devi shrines of the western metropolis.
