At Chitrakoot, on the border of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, rises the forested Kamadgiri hill, the sacred heart of one of the holiest regions of the Ramayana — the place where Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana spent much of their forest exile. Kamadgiri, the wish-fulfilling hill, is revered as a form of Rama himself, and pilgrims perform its parikrama, circling the hill on foot past its many shrines.
Nearby stands the Bharat Milap temple, honouring the deeply moving moment when Bharat came to the forest and met his brother Rama. Amid the Mandakini river and the ghats of Chitrakoot, Kamadgiri is a place of profound devotion, drawing pilgrims to the land where Rama dwelt.
