In the City Palace complex at the heart of Jaipur in Rajasthan stands the Govind Dev Ji temple, the shrine of Lord Krishna as Govind Dev, the beloved presiding deity of the city and of the royal house of Jaipur. The sacred image is revered as one of the ancient Thakur deities of Vrindavan, brought from the land of Braj by the Kachhwaha kings to keep it safe, and installed here so that the Maharaja might rule in the Lord's shadow.
Famed for its seven daily darshans (jhankis), when the deity is revealed to throngs of devotees, the temple is the spiritual heart of Jaipur, drawing great crowds at Janmashtami and through the year. Govind Dev Ji is among the most beloved Krishna shrines of Rajasthan.
