Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple, Diu

Five seashore lingas the Arabian Sea bathes at every high tide.

On the rocky shore of the island of Diu, off the coast of Gujarat, lies the Gangeshwar Mahadev temple, a singular and beautiful shrine of Lord Shiva. Here five ancient Shiva lingas stand upon the sea-washed rocks at the water's edge, so that at high tide the waves of the Arabian Sea themselves rise to bathe the Lords in a perpetual natural abhishekam.

Tradition links the five lingas to the five Pandavas, held to have installed and worshipped them during their exile. Set amid the sound of the surf, Gangeshwar Mahadev is a place of rare beauty and devotion, among the most cherished shrines of the Diu coast.
