Dhari Devi Temple

The guardian of the Char Dham, her upper form honoured beside the Alaknanda.

On the bank of the Alaknanda near Srinagar in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand stands the Dhari Devi temple, revered as the guardian Goddess of the Uttarakhand Himalayas and the protector of its Char Dham. The Goddess is worshipped as Dhari Devi, a form of Kali; tradition holds that the upper half of her sacred image is honoured here, while the lower half is worshipped at Kalimath, so that the two shrines together complete the Mother.

Set dramatically beside the rushing river, the temple is deeply venerated across Uttarakhand as a fierce and protective Mother. Dhari Devi draws pilgrims who seek her guardianship over the sacred mountain land.
