Near Kochi in Kerala stands the celebrated Chottanikkara Bhagavathy temple, one of the most revered Devi shrines of the land, where the Mother is worshipped as Rajarajeswari — and, remarkably, in three aspects through the day: as Saraswati in the morning, Lakshmi at noon, and Durga in the evening. A lower shrine, the Keezhkkavu, honours the Goddess in her fierce Bhadrakali form.
Chottanikkara Amma is revered above all for her power to heal those afflicted in mind and spirit, and the temple is famed for the deep faith of devotees who come seeking her grace and relief; its Makam Thozhal festival draws great crowds. Built in the classic Kerala style, Chottanikkara is among the most beloved and powerful Devi temples of the South.
